Abstract
A case study of wave penetration into a shallow marina has been conducted based on a Belgian marina, Blankenberge. Two numerical models, SWASH and MIKE 21 BW, have been applied in this study. First, both models were compared with field measurement data. The calculation results from the models show good agreement with the field measurements. Secondly, these models were applied to a wave penetration calculation with extreme storm conditions. It was found that very long waves are generated due to shallow waters and that primarily free infra-gravity waves penetrate into the marina.
