Abstract
Stomatopods, commonly known as mantis shrimps, are predatory crustaceans that live in the shallow waters of tropical and subtropical seas. They dwell in burrows and cavities and feed on other marine animals such as annelid worms, snails, clams, shrimps, crabs and fishes. Although stomatopods can be so numerous that in some waters they are a major predator, they are seldom seen because of their retiring habits.
