| Abstract |
At the beginning of the 21st century, the natural phenomena formed in Georgia, according to the losses inflicted, reached culmination in 2005. Of these more than 70% of the total losses falls to freshets, floods and mudflows. Up to 190 settlements came within zone of the risk of hazard on the scale of the country: the number of population affected-880 families, the number of casualities- 35 injured persons- 213 destroyed and damaged roads- 111 km and 69 bridges. 9610 ha of arable lands are no longer under exploitation. Owing to natural disasters, state of emergency was declared 86 times in 2005. Natural disasters of analogous frequency in Georgia were recorded in 2006-2009 as well. |
