| Abstract |
This is a translation and partly revision of a Russian book with the same title which was published in 2007. The book summarizes more than half a century of work on sturgeons in the Caspian Sea basin. The six chapters deal with (1) general characteristics of the study region, (2) spawning migrations in the Volga River, including temporal and spatial characteristics, (3) Post-spawning migrations, (4) Specific behavioural features of early life stages during downstream migration, (5) Distribution of sturgeons in the Caspian Sea, and (6) Fishery yields and major trends in sturgeon stock changes in the Volga-Caspian basin. |
