Abstract
The mud blister formation by P. ciliata in the Indian backwater oyster C. madrasensis is described. The nature of attack of P. ciliata is compared with that of P. websteri. P. ciliata, however, does not inflict serious injuries to the oyster. It is observed that the lowering of salinity to almost freshwater condition, due to monsoon rains, causes considerable damage to the polychaete population in the estuary.
