Abstract
On 23- VIII-1999, 23 fresh doublets of Ensis directus were found in Villers-sur-Mer (Normandy, France) on the beach in front of the "Falaises des Vaches Noires", between the security post and a distance of about 200 m past the end of the promenade (Severijns, 2000). When visiting the same site again on 01- V -2000 clearly more specimens of Ensis directus, in relation to the number of specimens of Ensis arcuatus, Ensis ensis and Solen marginatus, were found compared to 23-VI11-1999. Ensis directus was this time as abundant as Ensis arcuatus, whereas on 23-VIII-1999 Ensis arcuatus was still by far the most abundant of the two species. Among the specimens of Ensis directus that were found, a large number were young specimens, with a length between 27 mm and about 75 mm, i.e. in their first year. This indicates that Ensis directus has now firmly settled in Villers-sur-Mer and that its population is still growing.
