Abstract
The mathematical model of oil spills' transport and spreading developed by Nihoul (1983) is summarized. The model’s originality is its capability of taking simultaneously gravity, f riction and surface tension into account. New similarity solutions are established. Remote sensing sensors designed for mapping and tracking oil spills are reviewed. The model is tested by two different numerical simulations.
