Abstract
    S. dumerili (amberjack) can be considered a very suitable species for intensive aquaculture for two important reasons: a rapid growth rate (4 months) and the high commercial value. The knowledge of the reproductive biology is fundamental for the exploitation of such cultured fish both in view of seed supply from wild populations and fy production by induced spawning techniques. The paper reports on catching fingerlings in a "nursery" area of eastern Sicily and the results obtained in two short- and long-term growth experiments.
