Representatives of the Acoela were studied by electrophoresis and histochemistry. As these animals are relatively small metazoans, sensitive methods had to be used. Microelectrophoresis in slap gels and histochemistry/histology on JB-4 sections (TM Polysciences) were found to be suitable and inexpensive tools in taxonomical studies. Slap gels on the micro-scale level offer all the advantages of their macro-scale counterparts.
