Abstract
    Simultaneously with the excretion of urine, Carcinus maenas was found to release a substance to its medium which absorbs light of 300 nm wavelength. The easy detection of this substance offers a possibility for monitoring urine production in undisturbed animals, avoiding problems of earlier methods.
