Abstract
    In the shallow sandy areas of the northern beach of the Dutch Wadden island of Schiermonnikoog, 0-group plaice occurs in considerable numbers. A detailed analysis of the stomach contents showed that the polychaete Scolelepis squamata is the main food component. Most schemes concerning feeding periodicity of plaice presented in the literature have been compose dof data not obtained in continuous series of observations. In this investigation all data were collected in series of 24 hours. No intake of food could be demonstrated in the period between sunset and sunrise. The main feeding period was found to be in the daytime. The feeding rate turned out to be discontinuous. The feeding periods could be correlated to the tide. The maximum feeding activity of 0-group plaice in the area studied occurred in the period shortly after high tide.
