Data from the Continuous Plankton Recorder Survey have been used to provide information about the year-to-year fluctuations in the standing crops of the zooplankton of the North Sea for the period 1948-1969. A marked feature of the fluctuations has been a progressive change affecting the abundance, the timing of the seasonal cycle, and the pattern of the geographical distribution of a number of species. A number of examples are given.
