Abstract
    1. 1. Tumours in the opercular region of cod have been examined histopathologically.2. 2. The growth pattern and the similarity between some of the tumour cells and the acidophilic cells of the covered pseudobranch show that these tumours probably have originated in the pseudobranch.3. 3. The similarities between the present tumours and human carcinoids (e.g. yellow colour, infiltrating potentialities, mosaic growth pattern, lipoid-rich, argyrophil/argentaffin cytoplasmic granules) and the present findings make it probable that the covered pseudobranch normally has an endocrine function, producing 5-hydroxytryptamine, or a closely related substance.
