Abstract
Wind-produced steady horizontal motion of water in the Pacific Ocean was computed assuming the measured wind stress distribution and disregarding the wind-produced slope of the sea surface. It was concluded from numerical computations that wind-produced current vectors deviate 45°s cum sole from the direction of the wind stress, except at and close (within less than 1° 5N and S) to the equator. A spiral similar to Ekman's was obtained for several different combinations of both horizontal and vertical eddy viscosity.
