Abstract
Pompano (Trachinotus carolinus), conditioned by temperature and light and stimulated by hormone injections, were forced to spawn during the non-breeding season. Three consecutive regimes of temperature and light were used: 1) 26 days at 18 C and 10 hours light; 2) 21 days at 23 C and 13 hours light; and 3) 25 to 33 days at 28 C and 15 hours light. Conditioned fish were then periodically injected with varying dosages of human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) and pregnant mare serum (PMS). Spawning was obtained only from HCG injected fish. Ripe eggs were expressed 80 hours after the initial injection. Fertilized eggs hatched after 24 to 26 hours at 28 C.
