Abstract
    In the North Sea there are different spawning grounds for fish, but the main one is the one from the Zuidelijke Bocht. It is located about 50 km from the Belgian shore in the surroundings of Noordhinder. The eggs laid there, are being transported to the Wadden Sea via the residual streams. The Wadden Sea is known as the nursery, it is there that most larvae metamorphose into a little flounder. But if the eggs end up in the gyre-movement, they remain on the Belgian coast and metamorphose in the shallow coastal water. The temperature of the coastal waters is highly dependent on the temperature of the atmosphere and this temperature varies strongly in function of time. According to the temperature one can distinguish two water masses. Namely a water mass situated along the coast, where one finds a circular gyre-movement. And a water mass located on at least 45 km from the coast, where the temperature is more constant. Fish eggs can diffuse from one water mass to the other. Diffusion is the only means of transport for fish eggs to come to the coastal waters. This diffusion has been studied in function of the temperature of seawater.
