Abstract |
The basic component of the cage system is a 1 x 3 m fibreglass frame covered with 90/10 copper-nickel expanded-metal mesh of 76% open area. These panels are interconnected along with other fibreglass structurals, fittings and modular float units to form a 57 mSUP-3 rigid, floating cage system. The modular design allows this concept to be readily adapted to larger size floating cages, as well as submerged or bottom mounted applications. The excellent engineering properties of 90/10 copper-nickel, coupled with its inherent resistance to biofouling, are the keys to the projected long, useful service life and low maintenance requirements. Design details, performance specifications and economic analysis, for both the prototype and larger future nested commercial systems, are provided. |
