| Abstract |
This report describes the influence of wind stress on the water level with high water on the Balgzand, a tidal shelf area in the western Wadden Sea. Up to BF 2 no influence of windstress is detectable. From BF 3 on wind blowing from the sector ENE to SSW results in a decreased water-level, while for the remaining sector an increased level is observed. With the aid of the real observed high water-level of the nearby situated station "Den Helder" and the prevailing wind regime, an accurate prediction of expected water-levels on different locations on the Balgzand is possible. With some characteristics of the Balgzand area an estimate of the total watermass covering the area with high water can be made. |
