The Benguela Current Large Marine Ecosystem is one of four major upwelling systems in the world. It supports a number of commercially important fish stocks and there are rich reserves of oil, gas and minirals within the sediments of the Benguela.The BCLME Programme is a joint initiative by the governments of Angola, Namibia and South Africa to manage and utilise the resources of the Benguela Current Large Marine Ecosystem in a sustainable and integrated way. |
