| Abstract |
Improvements in shipping traffic safety in the Scheldt, the maritime approach to the port of Antwerp, are reviewed. Maintenance dredging work has improved the condition of the fairway and improved traffic guidance has helped to optimize shipping movements. A fall of 50% in accidents since 1982 is reported. Statistics on collisions and strandings are analysed to confirm the reported trend. (D.W.T.) |
