This work magnificently reproduces the text figures and full color plates of H.B. Brady's famous 1884 Challenger report, long unavailable except in the original, rare volumes. The book reproduces in beautiful color the plates from the original report, which is considered the standard reference on the foraminifera. Robert Wynn Jones has updated the taxonomy with new annotations to the original Challenger plates, providing identifications to nearly 1,000 species, locality details, and comments of the status of certain specimens. The introduction highlights the scientific importance of the expedition and details Brady's unique contribution to foraminiferology. Appendices include a suggested suprageneric classification of the foraminifera as well as ecological and stratigraphic ranges of selected species. A complete reference list and taxonomic index round off the book.
