Abstract
The principle of sea locks with a membrane to reduce salt water intrusion and save fresh water are introduced in this paper, and the conditions for use of this system are estimated also. The model of the system was tested in 1984, its scale is 1/20 of 3000 tons sea lock. The model test shows that, the salt prevention rate (the volume of the salt water out of the lock to the whole volume of salt water within the lock chamber) is 95% but the loss of fresh water is about 5% only; the floating stability of the ship within the lock chamber is fine.
