Abstract
Nowadays, coastal and inland waters are greatly exploited by human activities for transport, fishery, recreation, etc.
Close observation of such water systems is essential to ensure a continuation of its functions without effecting the fragile ecological system.
Airborne imaging spectroscopy technology fits well for this monitoring task as it is able to capture the low subsurface signals from the water and its constituents and can operate in a flexible way over large areas.
The MICAS (Monitoring Inland and Coastal waters with the APEX Sensor) project aims at the development of high quality level 3 products related to inland and coastal waters into the APEX processing chain.
APEX (Airborne Prism Experiment) is a new generation airborne imaging spectrometer, build by joint Swiss/Belgian initiative, for which it is aimed to develop state-of-the-art algorithms and derive chlorophyll, CDOM and suspended matter concentrations maps.
These end products are much more attractive for the non-scientific community who do not have the expertise nor the software to analyze and process lower level products.
