Abstract:
Het laboratorium Immunologie-Vaccinologie werd opgericht in 1979. De twee belangrijkste onderzoeksthema's van het laboratorium zijn de ontwikkeling van nieuwe vaccins en de studie van gastheer-pathogeen interacties met speciale belangstelling voor door pathogenen ontwikkelde immuun-evasiemechanismen. Verschillende gastheer-pathogeen modellen worden bestudeerd, voornamelijk dierlijke virussen maar ook enkele parasieten.

De mariene component van de groep heeft betrekking op de studie van uitgezette diadrome paling en de biologische en genomische kenmerken van zijn pathogenen, ondanks het feit dat het onderzoek hoofdzakelijk plaatsvindt in zoetwaterecosystemen. Dit omvat ook de studie van verschillende quarantainevoorwaarden voor paling, voorafgaand aan het uitzetten in het kader van uitzetprogramma's, die belangrijk zijn voor de beperking van sanitaire risico's, waaronder het vermijden van de verdere verspreiding van pathogenen voor paling.
