Abstract
The principle of using small dams, sand dams and subsurface dams are described along with their advantages for improving water resources and quality in Saharan and Sahelian Africa. Examples are provided. Multiplication of these types of dams worldwide would help mitigate drought and decrease the amount of water flowing to the oceans.
