Abstract
The ecological characteristics of the zooplankton in the Kuroshio region from east of the Philippines to east of Honshu are summarized. Subtropical and tropical species are dominant and subarctic species, mesopelagic and bathypelagic species are minor components in the Kuroshio region. The zooplankton biomass in the coastal region of Japan shows two peaks, in spring and autumn. Neritic species are dominant in spring. Their percentage begins to decrease in the summer and autumn, and pelagic species increase in number.
