Abstract
Preservation of crustacean plankton and the successful use of this diet to culture fish larvae is considered to be the key towards a large-scale utilization of a very big potential from natural waters. A number of experimental results demonstrated that deep-freezing proved to be a practicable preservation method which guarantees long-term storage and best acceptance by different species at early feeding stages. A special feeding technique was developed to reduce nutritional losses after thawing. First attempts towards the development of practicable techniques for harvesting, preservation, storing and feeding, and results obtained from feeding experiments with whitefish, arctic char, and other species are presented and discussed.
