Abstract
    Three approaches to the construction of high greenhouse gas world scenarios are described: the General Circulation Model (GCM) approach, the Past Climate approach and the use of Arbitrary Scenarios. Seasonal grid point data for western Europe from CO2-perturbed and control runs for five GCMs are presented. It is concluded that the regional climate scenarios currently available are not sufficiently reliable at the required spatial resolution for the purposes of coastal ecosystem impact studies. Modelling techniques developed for the study of climate/agricultural links are described. Techniques which are appropriate for the study of climate and coastal ecosystems are identified. The construction of regional scenarios and of a crop-climate model are illustrated by a Netherland's case-study.
