Abstract
Offshore wind energy is crucial in the decarbonisation process and significant development is expected in the next decades in Italy, especially for the floating technology. A detailed techno-economic analysis was performed and, among the aspects considered, electrical export connection has been thoroughly investigated. The two technologies HVAC and HVDC have been considered based on their affordability: the results show an economic convenience in the use of HVDC cable over distances above 50 km from the coast, considering 1 GW offshore wind farm. Furthermore, a geographical analysis has been carried out to identify interesting areas for offshore wind deployment connected with HVDC technology in short-and medium-term period.
