Research vision

VLIZ conducts multidisciplinary research with high  societal relevance and impact. The Climate-Ocean-Biodiversity nexus is at the forefront of VLIZ research, with a major focus on two thematic pillars: ‘Ocean Health and Human Health’ and ‘Coastal Climate Change’. In addition, our research has its origin in the data collected and the infrastructure maintained by VLIZ (‘data- & infrastructure-driven research’), as well as have connections with other VLIZ departments. Research at VLIZ adopts the concept of Open Science and pursues maximum collaboration. Our research is fundamental or applied, hypothesis driven, explorative and/or data driven.
