By public transportation
Bicycle
A blue-bike station can be found at Ostend train station where, as a member with a season ticket, you have a bike at your disposal. Thanks to the handy lock, you can park your comfortable blue-bike anywhere; you can even keep it for 18 hours. When you take the train back, you leave your blue-bike back at the bike point.
Coastal tram
From Ostend station, take the coastal tram towards Knokke, up to the 'Vismijn' stop. This route takes about 5 minutes. From the stop walk to the InnovOcean Campus: follow Hendrik Baelskaai and after 550 metres turn right into Jacobsenstraat.
Train
The Ostend railway station is located in the city centre, within walking distance of the seafront and shopping streets. There is a direct connection to and from Kortrijk, Ghent, Brussels and Antwerp. For international travel, there is a direct connection to Lille and by Thalys to Paris (over Brussels).
To reach VLIZ from Ostend station, you can walk, cycle or take the coastal tram.
By car
Parking
If you visit the VLIZ by car, parking is easiest at Strandparking P3 Ankerstraat, Ankerstraat 2, 8400 Ostend (650m from the VLIZ main entrance).
From the E40 motorway to the VLIZ
At the end of the E40/A10 motorway, enter Ostend and follow exit 4, direction Blankenberge (N34). After the lights, a roundabout, the viaduct and the blue bridges, turn left at the fourth lights. After crossing the tram line, turn immediately right, then turn into the first street on the right (Ankerstraat). At the intersection of Ankerstraat and Jacobsenstraat you will find the InnovOcean Campus.
By airplane
At Brussels Airport (Zaventem), on the lower level of the airport, you take the train to Brussels-Midi (frequency: every 20 minutes). From Brussels-Midi, you have direct trains to Ostend once an hour (1 hour 42 minutes) or you can continue, via a change in Bruges, to Ostend (1 hour 47 minutes). Another option is to take the train from the airport to Gent-Sint-Pieters and train to Ostend from there (2 hours 19 minutes).
