Organisation chart
Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) is an autonomous institute with the legal personality of a non-profit organization.
It receives an annual grant from the Flemish Region, more specifically from the Department Economy, Science and Innovation (EWI), and from the province West Flanders.
The highest governing body of VLIZ is the General Assembly. The association is governed by the Board, and is managed in its daily operation by the General Management.
To shape and adjust the science support tasks, a permanent team of scientists is consulted several times a year in the Scientific Committee, which advises the Board on all scientific aspects of the VLIZ operations.
Internal organisation
VLIZ is organised internally into four departments (Central Support Services, Science Support, Valorisation & Innovation, and Research), each comprising a number of divisions.
