The importance of our seas and ocean cannot be underestimated. VLIZ therefore wants to make this clear to all sections of the population, including education, in order to promote 'Ocean Literacy'. Ocean-related information is shared in different and accessible ways with very diverse audiences: young and old, professional and general public, local and international, educational and research community.
We answer questions from the public and provide information based on available scientific knowledge. In line with the Flemish Government's science communication policy, VLIZ promotes Flemish marine scientific research through exhibitions, public days, publications, educational teaching materials, lectures, study days, workshops and symposia.
