| Abstract |
The alien species Rangia cuneata was found in Germany for the first time in 2013 (BOCK et al. 2015). In 2015 and 2016 a second population was recorded near Luebeck and is briefly discussed against the backdrop of more new findings in Great Britain and in the Netherlands. At its new locality in Germany Rangia is most probably eaten by birds (seagulls or crows). These birds are lifting the thickshelled mussels high up in the air and let them fall on hard ground during their flight. In some attempts the shells are cracked and the mussels can be eaten by the bird. The size range of the preyed mussels is given. |
