Abstract
    Alkylphenols are environmental contaminants with estrogenic capacity. The significance of this property in relation to the endocrine disruption of reproduction in wildlife, however, is still debated. Previous studies have shown that alkylphenols induce vitellogenesis and disturb gonadal maturation in male fish. To test the hypothesis that endocrine disruption also occurs at the level of the neuro-endocrine system regulating reproduction, we studied the influence of paranonylphenol (4-NP) on the LH production by the African catfish pituitary.
