Abstract |
Oogenesis in salmon involves hepatic zonagenesis and vitellogenesis under the control of estradiol (E2), with transport in plasma to the ovaries. Primary hepatocytes from juvenile salmon produced zona-proteins and vitellogenin in parallel after E2-treatment, zona-proteins appearing somewhat earlier. While E2 was most potent, estrone, estriol, and estronesulfate (100 nM) induced zona-genesis. An estrogen receptor (ER) pathway was involved, as ICI 182,780 blocked such inductions. |
