Abstract
The rainbow trout vasa-like gene (RtVLG) and its cDNA were cloned and characterized. RtVLG was predominantly expressed in germ cells, including primordial germ cells (PGCs). Transgenic trout carrying green fluorescent protein gene driven by 5'- and 3'-flanking regions of RtVLG showed fluorescence in PGCs. This transgenic trout can be a useful tool to isolate live PGCs.
