Abstract |
In turbot, sperm motility is triggered upon dilution in solutions hypertonic to seminal plasma. The initial swimming period is characterized by the high flagellar beat frequency of fully developed waves proceeding through the flagellum. Then, waves become restricted to the head vicinity, while in the last period, flagella stop beating, devoid of any wave. The effects of osmolality and ions on beating parameters were studied to identify the factors responsible for the arrest of flagellar movement. |
