Abstract |
Most likely, Tricellaria inopinata is native to the west coast of North America. The species came to Europe via transport on ship hulls and/or the import of shellfish. In 2000, this bryozoan was observed for the first time in Belgian waters, more specifically in the marinas of Blankenberge and Ostend. Since then, this species has become common in the ports of Belgium and Europe. In some places, the population expands beyond the harbours, so that it is occasionally found on washed-up seaweed and plastic on the beach. |
