Abstract |
This paper is intended to present the interpretations the geotechnical engineer has to produce from the seismological data.Buildings fall into two categories when parasisinic engineering is concerned: normal buildings to which parasismic codes are directly applicable and constructions which require specific computations because of their complexity or their high safety level.The French PS 69 and the American UBC codes are briefly described.The risk of liquefaction and the phenomenon are explained. Some problems of offshore construction are provided.The final section presents the criteria of nuclear power plant siting according to US regulations followed in Belgium, particularly the procedures for the determination of the Safe Shutdown Earthquake and the Operating Basis Earthquake. |
