Abstract
A numerical model for the study of tides is developed for the English Channel. The aim of this work is to give a contribution to the difficult problem of the non-linear propagation of tides in shallow coastal seas. Sixteen tidal constituents are calculated and compared to the observations. It is shown that the outstanding wave M2 can be easily obtained by a reproduction of the M2 component alone at the limits. For secondary waves, for instance S2, M6..., it is necessary to simulate at the limits those components with the outstanding M2 wave.
