Abstract
    The aim of this study is (1) to ascertain the feasibility of sending information and data between institutions (in the Region) visited, using microcomputers and modems (modulator-demodulator), identifying any technological and equipment requirements necessary to ensure such communication or alternative approaches to the same end; (2) to discuss with scientists and information specialists in the Region their views on the desirability of establishing in the future a network within the framework of existing regional structure and international systems such as FAO-IOC-UN(OETB) Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Information System (ASFIS).For this purpose, UNESCO/IOC/KENYA/BELGIUM have organized a mission, by H. Onyango and P. Pissierssens to visit Institutions in Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritius and Seychelles.The report provides (1)the separate country reports, (2) a chapter on the tele-communication networks in the East African Region, (3) a chapter on a possible cooperation between RECOSCIX-WIO and other initiatives, (4) a financial analysis and conclusions.
