Abstract: |
The Coastal Group within the Department of Water Resources Engineering at Lund University is the
leading coastal engineering research group in Sweden. Members of the group have an extensive list of
publications in leading coastal science and engineering journals and serve on the editorial board of
several of the two most prestigious ones. In addition, members regularly serve on the scientific
committees of international conferences. Besides research grants from several national sources, the
main funding over the last years have been from the EU and US Army Corps of Engineers. The group
has established a close collaboration with several leading coastal research organisations throughout the
world, e.g., Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory, US Army Engineer Research and Development Center,
USA; University of Tokyo, Japan; University of Tsukuba, Japan; Technical University of
Braunschweig, Germany; and University of Granada, Spain. Group members are and have been
involved in several EU projects over the years (BASYS, SAFE, PACE, HUMOR, and FLOODsite).
The group has been working with coastal model development over the last 25 years. Since 1985, this
work has been performed in close cooperation with US Army Corps of Engineers. The shoreline
evolution model GENESIS, the profile evolution model SBEACH, and the longshore current model
NMLONG were all developed at ULU. These models are considered as state-of-the-art within their
respective domains and are officially adopted as Corps of Engineer models. As such they are being
used by hundreds of researchers, consultants, and managers around the world to analyse and solve
prototype engineering problems. |
