Abstract
Estrogenic effects of phytoestrogens were shown on reared fish. This action occured through estradiol receptor (rtER) binding. A competitive binding assay was used to determine the affinity of the hepatic rtER for phytoestrogens i.e. genistein, daidzein, equol, formononetin, biochanin A and coumestrol. The affinities compared to E sub(2) was found to be: estradiol > formononetin > coumestrol > genistein > equol > daidzein > biochanin A.
