Abstract
The recent work by the author and collaborators on some aspects of the biology of Botryllus schlosseri is reviewed and some new data are presented. The main points considered are: (a) the temporal -- spatial dynamics of local populations, onthe basis of the frequencies of some pigmentation characters which are genetically controlled; (b) self-fertilization versus cross-fertilization and the effectsof selfing and environmental factors on embryonic and colonial development; (c) the transmission of germ cells through the blood stream from one to the following blastogenic generations of the colony.
