VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE
Due to the overwhelming number of registrations received so far, the 11th edition of the VLIZ Young Marine Scientists’ Day will be organised at a new location. The new venue is:
-
Site Oud Sint-Jan
Mariastraat 38
8000 Brugge
www.oudsintjan.eu
Site Oud Sint-Jan is at 5 min walk from Bruges’ railway station. When you leave the station (direction Bruges) you walk straight on the station square. Then follow the signs through the Oostmeers and Zonnekemeers. [road description]
By car: site Oud Sint-Jan 'is located in the historic center of Bruges. The center is easily accessible via the E40 Brussels-Ostend. Take exit 8 (Sint-Michiels). Follow the signs to the railway station of Bruges (you pass 2 roundabouts). At the traffic lights drive under the railway tunnel. At the next roundabout turn right and then go immediately to the left. You can now follow the signs ‘Site Oud Sint-Jan’. Through the Oostmeers and Zonnekemeers you reach the Site Oud Sint-Jan. Limited parking space is available there (6.00 EUR/day). Another and maybe better option is to park your car in the parking adjacent to the railway station (2.50 EUR/day). Take into account traffic jams when entering Bruges during rush hours.
Programma
As you will be able to deduct from the challenging programme below, this edition promises to be a very dynamic and interactive one with a selection of 20 oral pitching presentations, a contest of 70 posters, a chat line (‘babbelbox’), a sitting area where you can interact with Dr Waddah Saab, presentations of the winners of the VLIZ awards and lots of opportunities to exchange ideas with colleagues.

TIME FOR YOUR OPINION AND QUESTIONS ON FUTURE MARINE RESEARCH IN EUROPE!
Face-to-face interaction with Dr Waddah Saab (European Commission - DG RTD). After his introductory key-note speech, we all warmly invite you in a cosy setting to further discuss and exchange ideas with this highly respected member of the European Commission.
MESSAGE-IN-A-BOX CORNER
You will be offered the opportunity to record your own marine research story in a private ‘babbelbox’. Spare a few minutes to tell how/why you became a marine scientist, why your research concerns us all. Or bring an object or anecdote to demonstrate your subject of science! Your recording will help us to bring marine science to all interested in the sea.
