VLIZ marine technician receives Eurofleets grant for a Multibeam Survey Training

This practical ship-based course will train technicians and scientific personnel to operate, collect and refine data from multibeam echo sounders for bottom topography. The course will focus on acoustic theory, principles in multibeam technology, auxiliary instrumentation, software systems, survey design and planning. Practical exercise at sea will be accomplished. Training will cover all instruments involved in bottom topography surveys such as navigation systems, attitude sensors, sound velocity sensors etc.

The training is organised by the 'Institute of Marine Research' of Norway and sponsored within the Eurofleets programma. More information available on Eurofleets website.

The acquired skills will be used in future multibeam work on the new research vessel 'Simon Stevin'.
