Have you recently defended your BSc, MSc or PhD thesis on a marine research theme? Then you have until 31 December to apply for one of the VLIZ Marine Science Awards 2023. From now on, with a slight twist in the conditions to participate.
With these awards, the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) aims to honour meritorious marine research, encourage young marine professionals to continue doing so in the future, and promote marine research.
The award ceremony will take place at the VLIZ Marine Science Day 2024 on Wednesday 6 March at De Grote Post in Ostend.
What has changed in the terms and conditions?
- As of this 2023 edition, candidates for the North Sea Award from all science disciplines within alpha, beta and gamma sciences are welcome to participate. Research should focus on studying the structure, functioning and/or sustainable management of coastal and marine ecosystems, including dunes and estuaries. There will no longer be a geographical focus on the North Sea.
- As of now, candidates for the VLIZ BSc and the two MSc thesis awards may come from any Belgian educational institution, or from a Belgian student at an (inter)national educational institution. Previously, this was limited to Flemish universities and colleges, and Flemish students.
- One of the two MSc thesis awards will be reserved for climate related research.
