Ten years ago, for one of the pilot tenders of the Flemish Government its second life began. After renovations, carried out by the then administrations Waterways and Marine Affairs (AWZ) and Science & Innovation (AWI), the ship set sail again. But this time with a scientific mission, under its new name "Zeeleeuw". Now, one decade and 80,000 nautical miles away, the many discoveries and experiences of the nearly 1,000 embarked researchers and more than 4000 students, teachers and guides are the evidence of a particularly rich and fascinating "Ten years of RV Zeeleeuw". DAB FLEET (the operator of the ship) and the Flanders Marine Institute VLIZ (the coordinator of the scientific work on board) provided a review of this turbulent period on the celebration of Wednesday 9 February. |
