Abstract
The molecular biological approach has made it possible to examine changes in the levels of the GTHs and GH mRNAs during the gonadal cycle in teleosts (Oothilf et al. 1998). The blue gourami (Trichogaster trichopterus) is multi-spawning and male-dependent. with an asynchronic ovary development (Degani. 1993). Since each stage of its gonadal development can be controlled and examined separately in the labaratory. the blue gourami provides a useful model to study the hormonal control of the gonadal cycle. The aim of the present study was to clone and sequence the cDNAs of the blue gourami GtH-I beta Gth-1I beta and GH and to quantify the mRNA levels of these hormones during the female gonadal cycle.
